I wandered into deepest Dublin City this afternoon to check out the Re-Think Re-Dress exhibition:

It forms part of the Fashion Evolution awareness campaign that's hoping to get a bit more focus on ethical and environmental issues involved choosing the clothes to go on our collective backs.

The facts emblazoned on these 10-foot banners make for some uncomfortable reading.

Creating fashion in a responsible way is hard. Rocket-science hard. Creating fabric, changing its colour and then forming it into something person-shaped all creates waste and it takes incredible skill and expertise to minimise it.

When you produce on a large scale and your market expects cheap clothing, it becomes almost inevitable that some of these considerations will be discretely ignored, as will an additional raft of employment issues.

One of the reasons we set up Catwalkgenius.com was to give greater support and exposure to designers who are producing apparel and accessories in a way that doesn't ignore these concerns.

Most of products on sale in our shop are handmade and in every case you can read about how they were created, direct from the person who designed and created them.

For designers who put ethical concerns at the heart of what their brand, take a look at Daughter Earth, LA Jewellery and seraglia.

For fellow Dubs, The Re-think Re-dress exhibition is on at the FilmBase on Curved Street, Temple Bar from today til Thursday.
