Well, Friday rocked. In case you haven't been watching, we hosted a film screening and presentation in conjunction with Laura Lees for her A/W09 collection.
Soho House was the perfect venue, with a really cool screening room for the short films and incredibly good-looking/helpful staff (not shown - I was far too shy to ask for a pic!).
We met some magnificent people, hello again to you all - but particularly to Samantha who won the competition for VIP tickets. It was lovely to meet you! If we didn't get chance to shake your hand on Friday, we are sorry and promise to make amends next time (Mal and I were the ones hanging around the general vicinity of the Mac that showed our SS09 sneak preview). Lynsey couldn't be there and we missed her lots. Lyns: we'll party twice as hard next time to compensate.
Laura's collection is more than a bit special and I'm hoping I'll be able to manage to get the vast majority into my autumn wardrobe. Here's a sneak peek:
A million thank-yous to Laura and her team for joining forces and to Sarah and especially Alyn for making it all come together so smoothly. Thanks also to everyone who dropped by! We hope you all enjoyed the night as much as we did and that the rest of fashion week is treating you well. Wednesday, February 18

The bags are packed (after careful attention to Annmarie's advice), the schedule's printed and we're off to London for Friday's fashion week shenanigans. It's not too late to throw your hat into the ring for a chance to join us at the Laura Lees presentation, otherwise maybe we'll see you in the tents. Tuesday, February 17

We're running a Top Friends prize draw over on MySpace. Here's the deal:
Read the full details here.
P.S. If you're now tweeting with Jonathan Ross, you can also follow one of us. But there are no prizes to be had there just now and you'd have to put up with an awful lot of nonsense. Wednesday, February 11

We were delighted to read Angela's post about this lovely project that brings together Giles Deacon and Smythson. I'm a stationery geek at the best of times, but these gorgeous, hand-engraved illustrated cards and tissue-lined envelopes have me quite giddy. They're not exactly cheap, but they are limited edition - and what a great way to write those fashion week thank you notes. Is it wrong to post them to yourself? Whatever, I'm doing it. Ah - my favourite time of the month! Annmarie of Iblog once again generously sorted us Irish fashion bloggers out with all kinds of loveliness, this time in the tea rooms of U2's Clarence Hotel. If you're ever in Dublin, or indeed the northern hemisphere, go.
The food was veh, veh good. Look!
Obviously, Lyns and I were there for the conversation, not the pink champagne - but we weren't disappointed on either count. Our end of the table featured RTE Sarah, Bluebird Katie, Solo Mag Karina, Offshoot Cat & Lil and Dub Streets Andrea & Matt. We didn't get to meet the glamorous folks at the other end of the table before the Clarence politely asked us to free up the space for paying (but less well dressed, we can only assume) guests. Next time, folks.
Finally, Clarins showed the love with some generously stocked goody-bags. It's a given that Clarins is stupendous - I need no encouragement to encourage you to try it. However, I'm particularly awed by the Instant Gloss. By some wizardry that's quite beyond me, this clear gloss turns your lips a lovely rosy shade that's nice and natural, yet individual to your own face-pillows. Mmmm. Friday, February 6

Look what's arrived, just in time for that most tragicomic of all days, St Valentine's Day*: Skimpie knickers and lingerie bag - £48 These beautiful lace knickers come with a free silk/satin lingerie bag, making a perfect pressie for your favourite lady-girl. If it's a pleasant evening you're looking for, buy flowers. But if it's a magnificent weekend, then these will do the trick. Their designers, kathy & claire, are also offering a gorgeous range of skimpies that will keep the romance going for rather longer too:

It's lovely to have some good news on this miserable, snow-clogged Monday. When the news broke that Amanda Wakeley had fallen victim to a corporate takeover, an oddly prescient (or very well-informed) Lynsey predicted that we hadn't seen the last of her.

Countdown to February's London Fashion Week is well and truly under way. If you've been lucky enough to catch any of the catwalk shows of previous seasons, you'll know that they are traditionally dominated by collections of womenswear. No more! The BFC announced today that the schedule for LFW will include 13 promising menswear designers who will all be showing on the afternoon of February 25th.
We can't wait to get a look at Carolyn Massey and James Long. After all, there is room for menswear on the catwalk too, especially if it happens to be clothing a rather exquisite looking gentleman. ![]() Image courtesy of Vogue.co.uk Friday, January 23

Most museums, I can take or leave. Don't blame me, blame my attention-deficient generation. And MTV. However, this one's definitely worth the trip - and especially between now and 17th of May: Image courtesy of Hussein Chalayan.com's blog An exhibit of works by the award-winning fashion designer Hussein Chalayan from 1994-2009 is on at London's Design Museum. It's purpose is to look at the creative approach of a man who brought us portable architecture, a dress made of aircraft materials and another made of Swarovski crystals and 15,000 flickering LED lights. It's the most compresensive presentation of Chalayan's past fifteen years of experimental projects and will include his past and present collections. It should appeal to anyone who loves fashion, technology, innovation or art. Basically, anyone with eyes and brain. And I dare you to leave without once contemplating the phrase 'frickin' laser beams'. Wednesday, January 21

As if there wasn't enough to look forward to at next month's London Fashion Week, we learned today that William Tempest has been named the recipient of the inaugural Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award. Receiving this award means Tempest can stage his first solo catwalk show at LFW.
Tempest narrowly missed out on winning last year's Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden award and has been much talked about lately since actress Emma Watson took to the red carpet in one of his creations. At only 22, Tempest's C.V includes stints at Giles Deacon and Jean Charles de Castelbajac. Not bad for a young lad. ![]() Image courtesy of Vogue.com Friday, January 16

1. Take 12 splendid designers: 2. Ask them to provide an image inspired by Light. 3. Using some sort of magic, refract said images through a Swarovski crystal and allow people to meddle with them with a mouse hover. 4. Run an automatic spooky music track on the page that will eventually convince viewers to check that poltergeists aren't coming out of the television. Et voila! SHOWStudio's 12 days of Christmas. We couldn't let the recent New Gen sponsorship announcements pass us by, without offering our public congrats to Fred Butler. Fred, who is selling her much blogged about Dodecahedron necklace with us, is a worthy winner of this sponsorship which has helped launch many a successful career, including that of Alexander McQueen.
There were of course lots of other worthy winners, including some of my personal faves. You can (and should) check them all out on the LFW site right here. Nice one Fred. We'll see you in February! ![]() Image courtesy of LFW Thursday, December 11

At CWG we are usually full of good cheer and inspiring (ahem) fashion chatter, so I apologise if this may be a little depressing. Amanda Wakeley is no longer working for Amanda Wakeley. Yes, it seems strange, but her fashion company has just fallen victim to a corporate takeover. In a statement released today, Wakeley said:” I have been advised that I will
be no longer required and have tendered my resignation which has been
accepted with immediate effect. I shall leave the company today.”
Wakeley's label has been running since 1990 and she has a dressed an array of red carpet stars such as Scarlett Johansson and Demi Moore. We may still see her SS09 collection at this Feb's LFW as she, like many others, is considering ditching the runway and showcasing her collection via a presentation. Whatever happens, I think it's safe to assume that we haven't seen the last of Amanda Wakeley, and thank goodness for that! ![]() Wednesday, December 10

Last week our friends at Dublin Streets invited us for tea with Yoske Nishiumi and Svenja Specht. Yoske is the founder of Berlin's Koi Klub. A club originally set up some
years ago for creative folks to come together and share ideas. Svenja is the founder of Berlin's fashion label Reality Studio.
At the intimate event, sponsored by Barry's Tea, Yoske and Svenja shared some of their golden moments, including how they met and what inspires them to be creative. We are loving Svenja's current AW collection and can't wait to get our hands on the SS09. Check out the collections here. ![]() Thanks to Barry's Tea for the tea inspired cocktails. We saw an interesting article on Wall Street Journal (via Business of Fashion) recently. In summary, it suggested that some designers will ditch their usual runway show in 2009 because of the expense.
As examples, they pointed to Marni (running a presentation), Marc Bouwer (webcasting a show after a successful attempt in 2008) and Carmen Marc Valvo (another presentation). ![]() Marni RTW A/W08 - courtesy of Style.com We're currently making plans for London Fashion Week in February and one of our proposed activities involved sponsoring a show or two for our designers. Before we steam ahead, we'd love to know what you think. Is the catwalk show on the way out? If you're a designer, would you consider doing something like a webcast or an alternative, more 'guerilla-marketing' based? We're delighted to unveil the SS09 collection from LP.BG, the new collaboration between designer Lily Parker and model Ben Grimes.
![]() White dress, £548 With Lily's background at LCF and Richard Nicoll and Lily's extensive industry experience the label has an impeccable pedigree and that translates into beautifully cut and finished pieces. ![]() White Shirt, £300 and Red Skirt, £189. The collection is inspired by vintage detailing, including Vogue spreads from the 70s. As Ben told WWD: "There are no full-length dresses in the collection. We wanted the clothes to be more about kicking up your heels and dancing." For ladies who're forward thinking enough to look beyond the wintry nights towards a fashionable Spring, you can now pre-order the key pieces from Catwalk Genius. You can also read what Vogue had to say about the new line. |
